Male, Maldives

Okay… sorry for the false upload— I had attached the wrong video… no one needs to see me clipping my toenails.

I was in a rush trying to post before leaving on an excursion and I’m behind a couple of ports… too much going on but with a couple of sea days coming up I will get back on track.

The Maldives makes up close to 1,200 islands of which only 187 have people on them, so if you are looking for an island this is the place to shop. However, you need to be, or convert to a Sunni Muslim. The first thing that strikes you when approaching the Maldives (Malé) is how vulnerable it appears; this island city could possibly tip over, similarly as to Rep. Hank Johnson’s observations of Guam. (at the 1:23 minute mark)

From what we have seen and experienced, the people are wonderful, and their smiles light up the day. There are no bars or clubs anywhere–this island nation is governed by Sharia Law.

The Maldives is for surfing and diving–forget the other stuff because there is no other stuff. We did see a luxury resort on one of the neighboring islands to the south but it seemed so isolated, as beautiful as it looked. I think they get around the alcohol issue by being able to serve alcohol on floating bars.

Our excursion here was a snorkeling session at a resort island and another stop at a reef. The abundance of fish was impressive but I will let the video do most of the talking….
