Singapore – Part I

We had a busy and whirlwind time in Bali and Singapore was the same (Fantastical). Sorry for the delay in posting but our time in Singapore was non-stop and with so many offerings during the day onboard I just did not get the time to post.

This Island Country is mind-bogglingly sensational. How can an island country the size of Manhattan and surrounding boroughs be so much of a powerhouse, boasting the second largest Cargo Port in the world–second to only Shanghai. It is impossible to capture the amount of cargo ships in the waters around Singapore with any other lens than the human eye.

We arrived in Singapore and cleared to leave the ship by 5PM. Immigration is crazy tight: Passport, Ship ID, Government Photo ID, Thumb Scan, Eye Scan, Xray of bags, phones, etc. Yet we never saw any security, police or military in this city. However, there are a lot of eyes in the sky. There is no gum-chewing, shows of intimate affection, cursing, brawling and of course… no Durian Fruit in the subway!

We caught the shuttle from the ship to Marina Bay Convention Center, then walked the underground over to Gardens Of The Bay. The first things you see when coming up from the underground are the Super Trees– images of a Sci-Fi setting both futuristic and beautiful.

We were told to stick around for the light show that took place at 7:45 PM, so with a couple of hours to kill we walked the gardens and entered both the Flower Dome and the Cloud Forest.

The queues were surprisingly short for a Friday, but like everything in Singapore they are run with such efficiency and the people are so courteous.

We entered the Flower Dome first and then the Cloud Forest. Wow! We were blown away and also lucky we were there during Sakura (Cherry Blossom).

This dome structure is impressive to say the least. When Climate change begins to become uncomfortable, Singapore will have already been way ahead of the rest of the world.

These climate controlled environments are a fantastic blend of form, function and beauty. Inside is so highly curated it seems impossible to maintain but there is a lot of expertise at hand.

The imagery is endless

And the light show to the Bee-Gees did not disappoint

And now the sightseeing dress

    • Speedy recovery. We miss you both. You will probably see my niece in there (Sherry) often— she has discovered Scooters while staying at our house.
